Deacon Lou Bauer
Lou Bauer is the son of the late Rev. Hermann M. and Louise E. Bauer. He was born and raised in Chicago where he graduated from Peace Lutheran School and Luther High School South. After attending Valparaiso University for one year, he received his B.S. in Business from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD and later attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID where he received his M.Ed. in Student Personnel in Higher Education. He spent 34 years in Higher Education, operating Student Unions, Bookstores, Food Services and Student Activities.
He also found a part-time career in education as he taught for 7 years at Northern State University and just completed 16 years of teaching at Concordia University–Portland as an adjunct instructor in the evening Business degree completion program.
Lou and his wife, Inez, a retired Beaverton School District teacher, have four grown children that reside in Portland, Vancouver, WA, Eagle, ID, and Van Nuys, CA. They have seven grandchildren which they love to spoil.
He retired in 1996 to Beaverton and joined Pilgrim in 2001. During his years at Pilgrim he served the congregation as Vice President and President. After attending the 2006 Northwest District Convention, he felt called to the Northwest District Leadership Advancement Program that fall and completed his studies in April, 2007.
He was commissioned as a Licensed Deacon and Certified Lay Minister on March 25, 2007. Lou assumed some of the duties of the former Visitation Pastor, the late Rev. John Sternberg, in October, 2006. In that capacity he enjoys visiting Pilgrim members that are ill or shut-in and unable to attend regular church services. Please feel free to contact him if you know of a shut-in who needs a visitor.
